WHY I’M DRAWN TO RIDING IN THE COLD

LET’S BREAK IT DOWN… (in less than 1500 words)

AN INNATE LONGING TO BETTER UNDERSTAND LIFE

ROOTED UNRECOGNIZED … DEEP WITHIN

PUT AWARENESS WHERE THE MIND & BODY MEET

When our conscious awareness is focused into the sensual report coming from our material body is when our mind and body are united in true harmony.

IT’S WHERE THE HUMAN CONDITION MEETS THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE

A developed understanding awareness of how our physical body fits into the material reality of its human experience thickens the fiber of your character.

IT’S SAID WISE TO GET TO KNOW YOURSELF BETTER?

This doesn’t mean better knowing your conditioned intellectual personality.

LOOKING TO THE SOURCE

Our personality is honed by how we’ve learned or been conditioned to interpret the sensual feedback from exposure to the outcome of life events.

WE HAVE NO CONTROL OVER LIFE EVENT OUTCOMES

Benjamin P. Hardy, husband and foster father of three who’s pursuing a Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology had published a wonderfully insightful blog in the Huffington Post on Feb. 8, 2017. An excerpt:

“You don’t control the outcomes of your life.
You don’t control how other people will respond to you.
You don’t control your health.
You don’t control how much money you make.
Principles control these things.
If you consistently put unhealthy foods in your body, your body will become unhealthy.
Your body is a natural system governed by principles.
If you don’t pay the price to develop your mind with consistent learning, your mind will become dull and unclear.
Your mind is a natural system governed by principles.
Most people cram for tests while in college. But can you cram if you’re a farmer? Can you forget to plant in the spring, slack-off all summer, and then work hard during the fall?
Of course not. A farm is a natural system governed by principles.
So are you.”

To not suffer from the ignorance of these principles, we need to better understand those uncontrollable outcome-ruling principles that govern the natural laws of this ever-changing reality. ….same ones that usher the “cold” verdict when riding in cold weather.

Each individual shapes their “personality self” in line with how they’re conditioned to perceive these principle-determined outcomes.

How many times have you melted down the outcome of a situation to justify your actions by saying: “It’s all about the principle?”

ALL HUMANS YEARN TO BECOME ENLIGHTENED ABOUT THESE PRINCIPLES … most unknowingly

Most will spend their lives turning over different stones unknowingly in search of this knowledge for use in molding their wisdom they use for life’s everyday present moment decisions. (Wisdom in how to better dress to ride in cold weather for example.) Even if they submit to an intellectually-spun discipline of theology for the answer, they will keep a subliminal eye open for the answer that applies to relieving their suffering in this living world, not one that’s intellectually spun and understood. Most individuals aren’t really even sure what the question is that tenders their inner fire.

Many might think the answer to that deep down question may lie in a new adult toy until their desolved excitement sets in after they’ve played with it a few times and they set aside to collect dust in a corner of their garage.

UNDERSTANDING NATURE’S OUTCOME-RULING PRINCIPLES

The only media that truly connects a human’s intrinsically defined self with the source of knowledge about those principles that determine all cause/effect outcomes in this ever-changing reality is sensually imprinted or registered…not intellectually metered and crafted to the unverifiable design and limits of one’s uniquely conditioned imagination.

The only living material connection an individual has when perceiving the naked change that defines their human experience in this transforming reality is their blood-pumping fiber of the material reality itself. The only connection the human condition has to better understand its human experience comes from the sensual feedback from the five senses that keep it consciously suspended in its human experience. It’s those same unalterable unprejudiced principles that regulate the material composition of their physical “self.”

THIS IS THE “SELF”  WE MUST GET TO KNOW BETTER

This helps develop an improved understanding awareness of the outcome-determining principles of the reality. You suffer less physically and emotionally when equipped or “enlightened” with the wisdom drawn from this knowledge.

PLACING AWARENESS INTO YOUR BODY

The intrinsic awareness a trike rider accumulates when focusing their waking conscious attention into their body’s sensual report is not just a bit of knowledge their intellect has fielded from an intellectually metered non-sensual media they’ve read somewhere or a friend’s told them of or they’ve been lectured about. It’s a cognitively savored report coming straight from their human condition’s sensual media thread of intrinsically perceived knowledge gathered from having awareness concentrated into sensually witnessing the outcome of the laws that unconditionally rule this reality’s impermanent backdrop. … I’m cold… I need a coat.

EACH TRIKE ADVENTURIDE OFFERS THIS … IT BUILDS CHARACTER

As you tune into how your body feels while riding, you get to know yourself (how your human condition fits into its human condition) better. Focusing human condition awareness on the temperature it’s experiencing or maybe even how the different foods consumed before a ride affect your ability to ride strengthens your character. You become more confident of what you know when it’s founded in sensual experience.

Maria Leijerstam, the first person to cycle (2014) to the South Pole speaks of her conscious focus while training for her adventuride in her well written account of her journey, “Cycling To The South Pole,” pg 54:

“Against common practice, I purposely trained on an empty stomach without food or fluids to test out that I could still perform by getting my body used to this feeling of deprivation. This was not easy; my thigh muscles strained and tingled with the effort and I produced little power and plenty of frustrated cycling during the first weeks of my training programme. But my body soon began to adapt and understand that it needed to work despite a low energy supply. I was training my body to learn.

My tough training along with my expedition experience taught me surprising details about my body’s ability to survive. I began to get used to the feeling of being totally drained and I learnt to appreciate how nutrition helped me to perform. It made me realize how amazing a woman’s body is.”

As she became aware of what foods benefited her riding experience, pg. 55 “My body became my dietician.”

Pg. 148: “I realized my body was a very intelligent machine and I always listened to it.”

This book is a wonderful read detailing how she figured out how to best adapt her human condition to endure her planned human experience in the most extreme moods Mother Nature is to ever be caught in. It’s only 150 pages.

“I JUST DON’T RIDE IN THE COLD!”

”THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS BAD WEATHER, ONLY BAD CLOTHES”
… A famous Norwegian maxim from history’s most notorious world explorers…

Cold weather helps intensify this mind-into-body awareness. With me, staying extra tuned into the sensual signals that indicate when I’m ready to sweat to avoid the chill helps sustain my mind-into-body awareness moreso than in warm/hot weather.

Without the right clothes, a code red sensory report can make most miserable. Their clothing’s not really suited to ward off the cold. Their intellectual being turns its nose up to their sensually monitored human condition. …no mind-into-body harmony … no effort to strike a truce to satisfy both the mind and body … Their mind wants the adventure, but stands too lazy to perform the due diligence to also make their body happy. Most just give up and appease their discomfort with … get their warmth from the bumper sticker retort: “I just don’t ride in the cold!”

THE ADVENTURIDES BECOME LONGER & MORE FUN

They fall short of just taking a few short weather-test rides to find the right clothes to bring comfort to body areas that report that cold feeling. Every cold weather pedaler gets to better understand the nature of their real world physical self and how it best fits into this reality and they probably have no idea to the level of significance that increased self-awareness plays on their present moment composure in everything they do.

Each future cold weather ride taken will result in some sort of clothing adaptation. The more they ride, the smaller the adaptations become.

Many everyday decisions, like whether to wear something because it looks good or to wear something else because it’s more functional for the ride conditions might take on a new meaning. Their answer to these questions will change over time. The cold weather routes become longer and more enjoyable. The life times in between these rides becomes more relaxed, enjoyable and at least subliminally, they feel better integrated with their life experience.
